John Carmichael

John Carmichael grew up in Toronto and earned his B.A. from the University of Western Ontario. Before becoming a Member of Parliament he enjoyed a successful business career serving as the Chairman and CEO of City Buick Pontiac Cadillac GMC Ltd., a Toronto landmark for over sixty years.

John was elected as the Member of Parliament for Don Valley West on May 2nd, 2011. In 2015, John was appointed by Prime Minister Harper to serve as Chair of Conservative Caucus for the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and Central Ontario. He is also Chair of the Government Auto Caucus, Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, as well as Vice-Chair of the Canada-US and Canada-Israel Inter-parliamentary Groups.

In addition, John serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology. He previously served as a member of the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security.

John’s passion and interest in his community is clearly demonstrated by his past involvement on various Boards, serving as a member of the North York General Hospital Foundation Board, President of Rowing Canada, and the Director of the Canadian Olympic Committee. John also earned the designation ICD.D from the Institute of Corporate Directors at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

John and his wife Kerry reside in Toronto and have three grown children and five grandchildren. He brings a strong voice to Ottawa on behalf of his constituents and the GTA. John takes pride in his strong commitment to public service, his community, and family.

Don Valley West

Don Valley West is a federal electoral district that has been represented in the House of commons since 1979. Its population in 2011 was 123,200. It is among the most economically and ethnically diverse communities in Canada. Neighbourhoods include York Mills, St. Andrew’s, Windfields, Don Mills, Lawrence Park, Leaside, and Thorncliffe Park, It is Home to numerous landmarks including: Glendon College-York University, Mount Pleasant Cemtery, Canada’s largest veteran centre at Sunnybrook Hospital, Holland-Bloorview Kids Rehab Hospital and Laird Business Park.

Due to Federal riding redistribution, Don Valley West will as of the next federal election, include an area formerly part of the St. Paul’s riding. This new portion of the riding is highlighted on the map in pink and includes the area between Mt. Pleasant Road and Bayview Avenue, from Moore Avenue north up to Broadway Avenue.
